A native of Los Angeles California, Darryl E. Ross, (also known as Dok) began his musical journey at the age of 5 as a featured vocalist at the St. Paul Church of God in Christ, Pastored by his father, Rev. H. C. Ross.
By age 10, Young Darryl would become the Director of the 100 Voice Mass Choir which was featured on the churches Sunday evening live radio broadcast, and before long some of the who’s who of Gospel and R&B music began dropping in to be among the standing room only, highly spirited congregation. One Sunday evening, legendary Gospel Singer/Producer Rev. James Cleveland was in attendants and was so impressed by Darryl and the choir he wanted to present them to the world… This resulted in a multi-album recording contract with the worlds #1 Gospel recording company at the time (Savoy Records) Young Darryl would soon begin traveling and sharing the stage with some of Gospel musics A LIST performers, names like, Rev. James Cleveland, Andre Crouch, Edwin Hawkins, The Clark Sisters, and countless others,
By age 15, Darryl had developed an overwhelming passion for song writing, arranging, and producing. As fate would have it while working with Rev. Cleveland Darryl had the honor of meeting the Queen her self, Singer/songwriter Ms. Aretha Franklin. She would eventually sign him to his first songwriters contract with her publishing company, Spring Time Music. After a brief apprenticeship with Spring Time, Darryl was fortunate to began honing his craft as an arranger/producer under the strict, no non-sense guidance of the Maestro himself… Singer/Songwriter/Producer/Arranger/ Conductor, Mr. Barry White. As a staff writer/producer for Barry's company (Unlimited Gold/CBS Records) Darryl learned not only about the music but also a great deal about the business. For the past 30 + years, Ross has made his mark in the entertainment industry as a world-class Songwriter / Producer / Musician / Promoter, Executive, by working with, and for the worlds most Iconic recording/distribution companies, past and present (CAPITOL / EMI, RCA, SONY, BMG, MCA, GEFFEN, UNIVERSAL, WARNER BRO, POLYGRAM, ISLAND, DEF JAM, ELEKTRA) and many other independent labels) In collaboration with some of the worlds most successful entertainers, motion pictures.
